Hylan eye drops without preservative are used as an artificial tear fluid. When used daily, they provide protection against dehydration of the eyes. These so-called ‘dry eyes’ can arise as a result of Sjögren’s syndrome, an autoimmune disease, with reduced tear production and the threat of drying out of the cornea, due to damage to the eyelids, or in situations where the eyes cannot be closed.
